How To Pick The Perfect Carpet Rug Binding And Edging

The carpet rug binding, also called edging, finish, or trim, is the protective finishing that runs along the edges of your rug. Edging helps maintain your wool rug's shape, protecting it from fraying and wear while lending a sleek, polished aesthetic.

Bremworth offers three different edging options to customise your wool rug - fabric, concealed and overlocked. Each edging option has been expertly matched by our designers to ensure the colours and bindings match the style of the rug.

FABRIC EDGE BINDING($$)

The stunning fabric binding is designed for a luxurious, contemporary finish.

The width of the fabric edge finish is 40mm for all rugs, with 40mm mitred corners.

This gorgeous example of a rug with fabric binding features the Lisburn rug in the shade Georgette, which is expertly paired with the warm, muted grey tones of the edging.

OVERLOCKED EDGE BINDING ($)

Our most affordable edge finish, overlocked binding, is 10-12mm wide with radial corners for a clean and tidy look. The overlocked rug binding uses the same yarn used in the rug and is colour-matched perfectly to blend in.

Can you replace the edge of a rug?

If you're not entirely satisfied with the current appearance of your Bremworth wool rug, you can always replace your edging at an extra cost.

Book a complimentary consultation with one of our designers to discuss your options, explore the different types of edging we have and choose an edge binding that best complements your interior.

Which type of carpet rug edging is the most durable?

Both concealed or fabric edging are the most durable edging options for rugs. However, for a longer lifespan, regular maintenance is necessary.

Regular vacuuming helps prevent dirt from eroding the yarns. In case of any spills, make sure to clean immediately with a clean cloth and water.

Can I choose a custom edging for my carpet rug?

Yes, you can customise your Bremworth rug with the three types of edging available: fabric, concealed, or overlocked edging. The type of binding or edging should depend on the rug’s style and what matches.

However, not all edging options are available for every rug in our collection. For instance, the Galet rug doesn't offer fabric edging as it doesn't complement the rug's aesthetic.

Key points on edged carpet rugs

  • Fabric edge binding is a middle-range option in terms of expense and can produce a durable, attractive finish on wool rugs.
  • Concealed edge binding is another mid-price option that offers a sleek, minimalistic look as the binding is hidden underneath the rug.
  • Overlocked edge binding is a low-cost choice that provides a clean, simple aesthetic and can effectively prevent fraying.
